Boxley's is a wonderful venue for live music. Good Steinway piano, decent sound system, decent stage.
The owner is a musician and is truly supportive of live music in every way. The audience comes to listen to music, at least on the weekends, and those that are not interested in the music have ample space to sit away from the band. The staff is very supportive and a meal is served to the band on the break. Why would I not give Boxley's five stars you ask? I will have trouble giving any venue five stars until the pay comes up significantly. This is the 21st century and the pay of most venues in general is firmly stuck in the 20th century. The money at Boxley's per man per night is about what groups made in the 1980's. Boxley's is beginning to address this problem by forming a 501 c3 non-profit to help support their live music and music education program. The owner is to be highly commended for this. There is no cover charge, which accounts for the low pay in general.
